Best practices
- One naming table per project, versioned
- Voice-test every name before handover
Common mistakes
- Naming devices 'Light 1', 'Light 2'
- Using device serial numbers as user-facing names
- Renaming after handover without updating documentation
Engineering checklist
- Human name for user-facing devices: 'Kitchen Ceiling Light'
- Room name matches drawings, not marketing copy
- No abbreviations in voice-exposed names
- Internal IDs separate from user names
- Language-neutral for bilingual voice control
