People & Space Intelligence

Know how many people are present, not just who entered.

Smart Citizens Occupancy Intelligence combines entrance counting, zone monitoring and live capacity rules to help organisations operate safer, more efficiently and with better visibility.

Illustrative analytics

What you get

Live occupancy

See how many people are inside a space right now, per zone and per floor.

Capacity thresholds & alerts

Configure caps for rooms, zones and buildings; trigger alerts as capacity is approached.

Zone & room monitoring

Understand how each space is used, not just the whole building.

Peak occupancy history

Understand what real capacity your building actually sees on peak days.

Multi-floor & multi-site

One live view across every zone in every location.

Offline continuity

Local retention and automatic resubmission when connectivity is restored.

How occupancy intelligence works

  1. Step 1
    Count

Entry and exit counting at every controlled doorway.

  2. Step 2
    Compute

Live occupancy is entry minus exit within a defined boundary — per zone, floor and building.

  3. Step 3
    Compare

The current value is compared against a configured threshold.

  4. Step 4
    Act

Alerts, dashboards and (when the target system exposes an interface) approved automation.

Where occupancy intelligence matters

Offices & workplaces

See how much of your workplace is used at any given moment.

Meeting rooms

Understand actual meeting-room usage vs booking.

Buildings & FM

Support cleaning, HVAC and facility workflows with real presence data.

Retail & venues

Enforce capacity for safety and experience.

Emergency & public spaces

Objective presence visibility for operations and safety planning.

Healthcare

Waiting-area and department presence monitoring.

Integration with dashboards and building systems

Occupancy data can support HVAC, cleaning, security or facility workflows when these systems expose suitable integration interfaces and the integration is included in the approved scope.

  • Live capacity dashboards per zone / floor / building
  • Configurable thresholds and alert routing
  • REST API, MQTT and webhooks
  • Integration with approved building systems, subject to their APIs

Occupancy sensors do not automatically control HVAC, security or life-safety systems without engineering validation and approved integration design.

Privacy considerations

Privacy-first architecture options are available, including depth-only sensing that does not require conventional RGB imagery. Compliance with any specific jurisdiction remains subject to the client's own data-protection review.

  • Occupancy is derived from anonymous counts, not identification.
  • Depth-based sensing is available for privacy-sensitive spaces.
  • No facial recognition, no unique-person tracking is published as a capability.

Occupancy intelligence business-case calculator

Illustrative business-case estimate based only on the values you entered. Final ROI requires a site survey and approved solution design.

Frequently asked questions

What is occupancy intelligence?

Occupancy intelligence measures live and historical presence inside a defined space. It supports capacity dashboards, alerts and operational automation while preserving visitor anonymity.

Can occupancy data automatically control HVAC?

Occupancy data can support HVAC decisions when the building management system exposes a suitable interface and the integration is included in the approved scope. It is not an automatic drop-in.

How accurate is occupancy?

Occupancy accuracy depends on entrance coverage, boundary definition and zone design, and on the accuracy of the underlying counting sensors — typically approximately 98–99% on a project-dependent basis.
