People & Space Intelligence

Turn visitor movement into commercial intelligence.

Understand when people arrive, where traffic concentrates, how long visitors stay and how performance changes across time, stores and locations.

Illustrative analytics

What you get

Entry & exit trends

Understand how traffic changes hour-by-hour, day-by-day and season-by-season.

Peak & low-traffic periods

Identify when to staff up, when to run promotions and when to schedule maintenance.

Dwell-time intelligence

Measure how long visitors stay in zones — a leading indicator of engagement and conversion.

Movement & stay heatmaps

See where visitors concentrate on the floor plan.

Multi-store comparison

Benchmark stores and locations on the same objective visitor metrics.

Campaign & event bands

Isolate marketing windows and quantify their true impact on visits.

How footfall analytics works

  1. Step 1
    Count

Overhead sensors at every entrance count entries and exits with bidirectional logic.

  2. Step 2
    Enrich

Counts are enriched with dwell, zone data, event windows and (where in scope) transaction data via API.

  3. Step 3
    Model

Trends, peaks, dwell distributions and multi-site benchmarks are modelled in the analytics layer.

  4. Step 4
    Decide

Dashboards and exports feed weekly and monthly operational and commercial decisions.

What footfall analytics can measure

Retail stores

Traffic-to-transaction ratio, peak-hour staffing, campaign lift.

Shopping malls

Tenant benchmarking, common-area flow, event impact.

Museums & exhibitions

Visit patterns, exhibit dwell, capacity planning.

Transportation

Passenger flow at concourses, gates and entrances.

Hospitality

Lobby, restaurant and venue-space traffic.

Public venues

Objective visitor accountability for service planning.

Dashboard, exports and integrations

Smart Citizens footfall analytics presents both operational dashboards for retail managers and executive views for multi-site owners.

  • Operational dashboards for daily / weekly review
  • Executive multi-site benchmarking view
  • CSV and API export
  • Event / campaign / time-band tagging
  • Role-based access control

POS, CRM and enterprise integration are subject to API availability and approved project scope.

Privacy considerations

Privacy-first architecture options are available, including depth-only sensing that does not require conventional RGB imagery. Compliance with any specific jurisdiction remains subject to the client's own data-protection review.

  • All footfall metrics are computed from anonymous counting data.
  • Depth-only sensing is available where privacy sensitivity is high.
  • No facial recognition or unique-person tracking is included as a capability.

Footfall analytics business-case calculator

Illustrative business-case estimate based only on the values you entered. Final ROI requires a site survey and approved solution design.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between footfall and occupancy?

Footfall counts how many people entered or exited over time. Occupancy measures how many people are currently present in a space. Both are derived from the same underlying counting data, but they answer different operational questions.

Can footfall analytics integrate with POS?

Yes, where the POS platform exposes a supported API and integration is included in the approved project scope. Smart Citizens does not claim automatic compatibility with every POS system.

How is dwell time measured?

Dwell time is derived from anonymous zone-entry and zone-exit events. It represents how long visitors remain in a defined zone, not how long a specific individual stayed.

Can footfall analytics be used across multiple sites?

Yes. Multi-site benchmarking is a core capability — every site rolls up into an executive view using the same objective definitions.
